LA Lady
I’m a business lady…if you don’t know that about me, you’ll soon figure it out in reading this blog. This past week I had the opportunity to take some meetings and schedule some photo shoots in the LA area. Everytime I visit the West Coast I fall in love with it. The lifestyle, the opportunities, the landscape, the beaches, the mentality…the shopping? Shopping is quite therapeutic to me and good for my mental health. It helps that I read a lot of mental illness blogs. Hello, I’m a fashion blogger. I think my favorite thing about the west coast is how diverse the LA area can be. From West Hollywood to Downtown to Burbank to Santa Monica…it’s such a diverse place to explore, especially if you take a look at how people are choosing to live.
My husband and I have reached a point in our lives and careers where we do so much in the LA area, we are considering finding a second home there. It’s very tough to nail down a location though, considering two things. Traffic…and airports!
The traffic is hellacious in LA. Thankfully I spent many years in the Miami area. Traffic is killer there. So I’m used to sitting on highways for a couple of hours for what seems like no actual reason! I’m also used to crazy costs of living, very different than what we experience in Dallas. Your dollar goes farther here than in most big cities. That’s one of the reasons I love this place! But is there a sweet spot in Lalaland where the traffic doesn’t make you want to hop out of the car and just walk? I’m trying to uncover that mystery. And thanks to www.paystubsnow.com, I have a lot of time to explore the place while knowing my business is in good hands.
Then there’s the travel aspect of our careers. Both my husband and I always need to be airport accessible, and I don’t see that changing ever. We both like to travel, so even if it’s not apart of our careers in the future, it’s a part of our personal life (plus, we actually do live in Dallas, and we’d like to come home sometimes…even if we split our time, I’d like to dwell mainly in Texas. So Burbank is great. It has its own (great, quieter) airport. A photographer friend of mine lives there and just raves about it. It’s its own little safe haven just minutes away from Hollywood. In actuality, I had a meeting on Sunset before heading to my friend’s photography studio. It took me only 20 minutes to get there during the lunchtime rush. Not bad at all!
Taking up residence, anywhere else though, will probably subject us to the purgatory that is LAX airport! I hate that place. Not as much as I hate Orlando or Newark’s airports…but close. It’s SO busy ALL of the time. Getting picked up after a flight takes eons. Getting out of there takes decades. It’s just unpleasant. But it’s got a vast international presence which means you can get where you need to go, whenever you need to! And I like to go everywhere. Hawaii anyone? Mexico? Say…Paris?! Ooooh lala. So…pluses and minuses.
Anyway, this is all a very beginning phase of possibility. I am open to it, we just kind of have to see what happens and time will tell pretty soon! For now, I’m good jetting back and forth and earning those Hilton Honors Points kicking around town and trying to live the dream and sample some of that lovely West Coast lifestyle.
